  • Tattoo Aftercare Guide //

How to take care of your new tattoo

Taking care of your tattoo is essential to help it heal properly and keep it looking sharp. Gently wash the area, keep it clean and hydrated with Aquaphor Healing Ointment, and avoid picking at scabs. Healing may take a few months, but consistent care will ensure the best results.

    + First Days

    What to Expect

    • Your tattoo will be covered with a bandage when you leave the studio.

    • It may ooze fluid (plasma, blood, or ink) this is normal.

    • The area will likely be red, sore, and warm to the touch.

    What to Do

    • Ask your artist how long to wait before removing the bandage.

    • Wash your hands before touching your tattoo.

    • Gently wash the tattoo with warm water and unscented, mild soap.

    • Pat dry with a clean paper towel (do not rub).

    • Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor Healing Ointment.

    • Leave the tattoo uncovered unless your artist instructs otherwise.

    + Scabbing and Itching

    What to Expect

    • The tattoo may look dull or cloudy.

    • Scabs will start to form as part of the healing process.

    • Itching is common during this phase.

    What to Do

    • Continue washing the tattoo once or twice a day.

    • After each wash, pat dry and apply Aquaphor Healing Ointment.

    • If the tattoo feels dry or itchy during the day, reapply a small amount of Aquaphor.

    • Do not scratch, peel, or pick at the scabs.

+ Ongoing Moisture and Skin Care

    What to Expect

    • Scabs will begin to flake and fall off naturally.

    • The tattooed area may still look dry or dull.

    • Deeper layers of skin are still healing even if the surface looks better.

    What to Do

    • Let scabs fall off on their own.

    • Moisturize daily with Aquaphor Healing Ointment or a gentle, unscented lotion.

    • Continue to care for the area until your skin feels fully smooth and hydrated.

    • Protect the tattoo from excessive sun exposure and avoid soaking it in water (baths, pools) until completely healed.
